Photo and Movie Mover – MoveMyMedia

MMM I have been playing with a new program to move pictures and movies from my camera.  I have used Picasa, Windows Live Gallery, a couple of free apps and just windows explorer.  They are all fine and good.  Some are too big for what I want.  Others too complicated.  MoveMyMedia does just what I want.

MoveMyMedia is simple and fast.  It gives you the option to move either pictures or movies.  You can either copy or move your media (pictures/movies).  What that means is that if you copy the media, then media stays in the original location as well as the new location.  If you move your media, then it will only be in the new location.  If you choose not to choose your own destination, then MoveMyMedia will put pictures in the MyPictures folder in a folder named “yyyy_MM_dd_hh_mm_ss” (ex. 2009_07_12_8_43_23).  Otherwise, you get to decide where you what your media to go.  If you are moving Movies, then the default destination will be in the MyVideos folder.

After you have moved or copied your media, simply click on the Open Pictures/Movies button to see where they are now.

One nice feature is that MoveMyMedia will remeber the last place it got your movies or pictures from.  So, if you are always using it to get the pics off your still camera, just start up MoveMyMedia and hit the “Start” button.

Here is a list of file types that it will move:

Pictures

  • .jpg
  • .jpeg
  • .png
  • .gif

Movies

  • .mpeg
  • .wmv
  • .mov
  • .MOD

One downside to MoveMyMedia is that it is for Windows only.  There is no support for Mac or Linux.  It is written on .Net 3.5 SP1.  If you do have a Windows machine, I suggest you give it a try.  It is very fast.

Since the program is free, support the programmer if you like the program.

I can’t wait to see the next version and my chance to be overly critical. ;)

I can’t wait to get time to work on it. I was doing an upgrade to some databases and then to SharePoint late last night.

I have not updated this program in a long time. Would anyone like to see another version and if so, what features?
